What should FSOs be doing this month?
- Get your NBIS Account going and active!
- Begin changing “DISS” to “NBIS” on internal memos and documents for investigation instructions.
- Get your “Quick Steps” from your FSO PRO Membership!
- Log into DISS, NBIS, ServiceNow, and NISS …and any other timed data base so you don’t get locked out.
- Administer any scheduled annual training: Annual Refresher, Insider Threat, Self-Inspections, and personnel interviews
- Begin planning for September’s “Insider Threat Awareness” month!

Yep, that’s right – this is NOT a drill! We FSOs have seen the big red sign when you log into DISS that as of October 1, (you know, right when the fiscal year and new contracts are kicking off) certain functionalities will only be available in NBIS, not to mention all the emails for the instructions!
Everyone MUST have an NBIS account by October 1, 2023, so don’t put this off if you have been doing so!
You have probably read all the details and worked out your PSSAR, but if you haven’t, the FSO PRO Members club provided the quick steps for set up and are helping our member get prepared. We are here to help! Let’s Get this NBIS Party Started!
Other Reminders for FSOs:
- Update your Profile with New DD254s or delete old ones in NISS as they come in. You cannot use the “Request Facility Profile Update” feature in NISS for changed conditions, but you can use it to update contact information, # of cleared employees, and DD254s or, as it is called in NISS, Customers and Programs. Keeping your DD254 list current in NISS is a big timesaver during inspections (trust me on this one—I have attend 21 inspections so far this year).
- Fingerprint Timeline: “Submitting electronic fingerprints at the same time, or just before you complete your review for adequacy and completeness, should prevent an investigation request from being rejected for missing fingerprints.” Aim for doing it at the same time as submitting the SF86.
- Plan for Insider Threat Awareness Month. September is “Insider Threat Awareness Month” and DCSA created some new security awareness games such as an Insider Threat Crossword – Puzzle and Insider Threat Trivia Twirl to provide quick and easy ways to provide security awareness at your organization.
